Privacy Policy
Last updated: Jan 15, 2002
This privacy policy covers the web site at www.harmoncurran.com and www.harmoncurran.com/navigator.
If users have questions or concerns regarding this statement, they should first contact the firm by e-mail at HCSE@harmoncurran.com. Subscribers to the Nonprofit Navigator's e-mail service may also contact Navigator@harmoncurran.com. Both of these addresses are usually checked at least once on each business day.
Harmon, Curran is the sole owner of the information collected on HarmonCurran.com. Harmon, Curran collects information from our users at several different points on our Web site.
Subscription
This web site may be used by anyone without providing any personally identifiable information. Newsletter readers who wish to receive an e-mail announcing publication of each issue must provide certain information. For subscription to this service, we require a person's name, e-mail address, and city and state of residence. We request certain other information such as the name of their organization, and areas of interest.
Information Use
Subscriber information is used only by Harmon, Curran to send out messages related to the Nonprofit Navigator newsletter.
We do not and will not share personally identifiable subscriber information with any third party except in the unlikely event that it is required by law or if we have a good-faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with a current judicial proceeding, a court order or legal process served on our Web site. We do not have plans to share aggregate information with any third party, but reserve the right to do so. Should this happen, an appropriate amendment will be made to this privacy policy.
Information submitted by subscribers comes to us as an e-mail. We store information that we collect in an e-mail folder on a computer in our office. We do not collect any information other than that provided on the subscription form.
Cookies
A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user's computer tied to information about the user. We do not use cookies on this site.
Log Files
Like most standard Web site servers we use log files. This includes internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, platform type, date/time stamp, and number of clicks to analyze trends, administer the site, track user's movement in the aggregate, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. IP addresses, etc. are not linked to personally identifiable information.
Communications from the Site
We send all new subscribers a welcoming email to explain what you can expect to receive from us, and to describe the process to unsubscribe.
Approximately once a month, when we post a new issue of the Nonprofit Navigator, we send subscribers an e-mail announcement. Occasionally, we may create a special issue should events warrant. In that case, subscribers would receive an extra message with notice of the special issue.
We will use our subscriber list to send administrative announcements pertaining to the newsletter and subscriptions, or changes to this privacy policy. We may also, on rare occasion, send out inquiries to subscribers requesting feedback about the newsletter. We do not currently offer a way to opt out of these adminstrative announcements and other messages.
Because this is a new service, we do not have a lot of experience on which to base predictions. However, subscribers should expect to receive no more than two messages per month on average.
Business Transitions
In the event Harmon, Curran goes through a business transition, such as a merger, or if the Nonprofit Navigator is transferred to another publisher, subscribers' personal information will, in most instances, be part of the assets transferred. Users will be notified via e-mail prior to a change of ownership or control of their personal information. If as a result of the business transition, the users' personally identifiable information will be used in a manner different from that stated at the time of collection they will be given choice consistent with our notification of changes section.
Choice/Opt-out
Because our use of information collected on this site is so limited, we do not offer an 'opt-out' mechanism. Subscribers may unsubscribe from our e-mail notification service at any time. Because subscription and unsubscription requests are processed manually, please allow several days for confirmation.
Users unable to complete subscription or unsubscription on line may call our offices at 202-328-3500.
Links
This Web site may contain links to other sites. Please be aware that Harmon, Curran is not responsible for the privacy practices of such other sites. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our site and to read the privacy statements of each and every Web site that collects personally identifiable information. This privacy statement applies solely to information collected by this Web site.
Security
Because we only collect very basic contact information, we do not currently use encryption software to protect this data. We gather subscription information by e-mail and keep it in our offices; subscriber information is not stored on line.
Correcting/Updating/Deleting/Deactivating Personal Information
If a user's personally identifiable information changes (such as zip code, phone, email or postal address), or if a user no longer desires our service, we provide a way to correct, update or delete/deactivate users' personally identifiable information. This can usually be done by e-mailing us at Navigator@HarmonCurran.com. Or, contact us by telephone at 202-328-3500.
Notification of Changes
If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes to this privacy statement, the homepage, and other places we deem appropriate so our users are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it. We will use information in accordance with the privacy policy under which the information was collected.
If, however, we are going to use users' personally identifiable information in a manner different from that stated at the time of collection we will notify users via e-mail. Users will have a choice as to whether or not we use their information in this different manner.
